Last weekend a friend of mine and I drove to Crowhill farm in Cameron, Ontario. I had seen sheep shearing before at Maryland Sheep and wool, but never this up close and being involved in the process. It was an amazing process where many friends helped with the event. There were people helping with the sheep, the shearing and with the skirting of the fleece. Everyone helped out and the 48 sheep and 7 lambs shearing went quickly and efficiently. It was so amazing to be involved in the full sheep shearing process.
The fleeces were beautiful lovely, full of crimp, soft and I wanted them all. I did indulge in a full white fleece and soft lovely white lamb fleece. I split a full black fleece and a black lamb fleece with my friend. I am excited to get washing the fleece and start carding it up for spinning. It is good to understand the how the fleece gets to me the spinner. I also loved that I was getting a beautiful fleece from a local farmer.
